Relisted as purchaser did not view the car before bidding - this is a project car as mentioned below, it is uncompiled and is not a quick tidy up and flick on. It is strongly advised to look at the car or have someone do so before bidding. The car is not currently running after standing for sometime. The video of the car running was taken last month. Possible starter motor but cannot confirm.
This LHD Mazda 1.3 piston powered 818 (as the 808 was known as in Europe and North America) provides a fantastic opportunity for those looking to get into the Mazda scene either to bring back to her former glory or go down the RX3 tribute route. Originally sold new in France it resided in Spain since 1976 before being exported to New Zealand.
The odometer reads 55,000km's which cannot be verified however the interior is in excellent condition (the top of the dash was reupholstered due to sun damage). The Italian alloy wheels and chrome bumpers have been refurbished.
The car is being sold as a project car by auction without having gone through compliance. All original paperwork is with the car to enable it to be registered in New Zealand. It was not flagged for rust at the border however does have rust bubbles on the pillars as is common with these cars and past repairs are evident on the body. It has had an older respray the car was originally orange and will need a respray and the bodywork attended to.
The car did have a ITV in Spain until January (WOF equivalent) however as we know the standards are much stricter on rust in New Zealand. It does not seem too bad underneath however will require attention to some rust patches. This classic, cool retro Mazda is a great opportunity to make it into a special car with not many remaining these days.
